FYI, here is what CCA uses for databases:

  • CCA (main database) = ODBC
  • Everything else = OLEDB
  • For statistics an ODBC connection string works as well

CCA converts this to an OLEDB connection string

So the connection strings (using https://www.connectionstrings.com/sql-azure/) should be:

  • CCA:
    Driver={SQL Server Native Client 11.0};
    Server=tcp:[serverName].database.windows.net;Database=myDataBase;
    Uid=[LoginForDb]@[serverName];Pwd=myPassword;Encrypt=yes;
  • Everything else:
    Provider=SQLNCLI11;Password=myPassword;User ID=[username]@[servername];
    Initial Catalog=databasename;Data Source=tcp:[servername].database.windows.net;

It seems these are the same connection strings as normal, except there’s a special server address and user ID:

                tcp:[servername].database.windows.net
